Warm water evaporating into warm air creates constant, heavy humidity, and if that humidity is not managed properly it does not just make the space uncomfortable — it damages the building. The humidity problem
Evaporation from a pool surface loads the air with moisture continuously. Left unmanaged, that moisture condenses on cooler surfaces — walls, ceilings, structural steelwork, windows. Over time, condensation causes corrosion, damages finishes, promotes mould, and in the worst cases attacks the structure of the building itself. There are well-known cases of pool roofs failing because humidity was allowed to corrode the supporting steel unseen.
So pool ventilation has a job beyond comfort: it protects the fabric of the building.
What a proper system does
Effective pool ventilation controls humidity to a target range, supplies fresh air, and does both while managing energy use — because the warm, moist air being extracted carries a lot of energy you do not want to simply throw away.
Good systems do several things at once. They maintain relative humidity within the range that keeps the space comfortable and the building safe. They direct air across the surfaces most at risk of condensation, particularly glazing and external walls. And the better systems recover heat and moisture from the extracted air, using it to temper incoming fresh air — because in a pool hall, ventilating without heat recovery is pouring energy down the drain.
The energy dimension
Pool halls are energy-intensive by nature: warm water, warm air, high ventilation demand. This is exactly where heat recovery earns its place. A well-designed pool ventilation system captures energy from the humid extract air and reuses it, dramatically cutting the cost of keeping the hall at temperature. On a facility running long hours, the difference between a system with effective heat recovery and one without is significant on the energy bill.

A pool environment punishes generic ventilation design. The humidity is relentless, the corrosion risk is real, and the energy stakes are high.
